Exploring the Serene Hillside Villages of Northern Italy
Tucked away in Northern Italy, winding cobblestone pathways lead to hidden hill towns where time stands still. These picturesque villages exude ancient charm and steeped in history, these hill towns provide an immersive and serene atmosphere in Northern Italy.
Few places are as breathtaking as the hillside villages of Northern Italy. With their terracotta buildings stacked atop one another, the villages are perhaps one of the most photogenic places in the entire country. The beauty of the villages lies in the colourful homes, the silent piazzas, and the medieval churches that overlook it all.
The first & most outstanding village we visited was Cinque Terre – a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprised of five stunning hill towns. The views from each of these hillside villages of the coastline was indescribable. The striking multicoloured houses were nestled in the rolling hills, the quaint little piazzas and stunning seafront trails made for an exquisite day of sightseeing.
The next hillside village we visited was Manarola – one of Cinque Terre’s five small settlements. This picturesque village is known for its brightly coloured homes Lee nestled on the hillside and is one of the most popular destinations for visitors. Here, you can take a stroll along the winding alleyways, and the stunning views of the sea from the higher points of the village.
The third village we visited was Riomaggiore, the southern-most town of Cinque Terre. This fishing village is known for its nearby nature trail, which connected all of the villages and offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Here, we enjoyed a stroll along the coastline, giving us breathtaking views along the way.
Our next stop was Portofino, a vibrant tourist destination known for its gorgeous harbour and entertainment. The tiny shores of this fishing village offer a charming atmosphere that mesmerizes its visitors. From the numerous restaurants to the small boutiques and churches that line the streets, every corner is picture-worthy.
Our final stop was the hill town of Monterosso. Straddling the sea, this village is known for its vast beaches and crystal-clear waters. The ancient streets are filled with alluring architecture, terracotta rooftops, and vibrant courtyards. This village offers tranquil charm not found anywhere else in Italy.
